Foundation Support
Health Care for America Now and its 501c3 partner, Health Care for America Education Fund, have had some amazing successes in a short time:
- Developed coalitions in 43 states that changed attitudes, mobilized action, educated lawmakers and created change.
- Worked closely with 19 national organizations representing communities, labor, education, children, poverty, women, and civil rights that signed on as Steering Committee members.
- Signed on more than 1,000 national, state, and local organizations as supporting partners.
- Orchestrated a demonstration with 5,000 people outside an insurance industry meeting on March 9, 2010.
- Held more than 890 local events attended by tens of thousands of supporters.
- Drew more than 5,000 people to 340 house parties in 180 cities.
- Held 200 mobilization events nationwide involving 15,000 people and 40 Members of Congress in April 2009.
- Released major national and state reports concerning:
- Lack of insurance industry competition
- Premium affordability
- Racial and ethnic disparities in health status and health care
- State-by-state impact of health reform on state budgets
- False justifications of premium increases
- Health insurance industry abuses - Held more than 50 “Sick of It” actions in 32 states to express the public’s displeasure with insurance company profits and maltreatment of patients.
Our work lends itself well to Foundation funding. We have received funding and interest from foundations dedicated to:
- Social and economic justice
- Health disparities
- Community organizing and grassroots efforts
- The progressive movement
- Health care reform
- Innovations in communications
- Research
- National, state, and local efforts
